At the end of 2018, I discovered my first Dr. Joe Dispenza book, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself.  This book absolutely blew me away on every level.  With 2019 coming up, I began reflecting back on all that had happened in my life since 2009.  The last 10 years of my life had been extremely profound and full of personal transformation.  I turned my life around in every way I had previously thought was impossible. I had been feeling very grateful for everything I had already, but once I started my Dr. Joe mediation practice, a lot became clear all at once.  A fleeting project idea I had in the back of my mind became the priority in my conscious mind.  I could see it all lined up beautifully.  I felt a deeper calling than I ever had to share my story through the expression of gratitude.  All these ideas came at once and I knew they needed to be sorted out.

In February 2019, a long weekend kept presenting itself no matter how much I tried to schedule work.  So I took this as a sign from the Universe, searched for the cheapest flights for that coming weekend, and was excited that it was going to take me back to one of my favorite countries.  I flew to Iceland last minute for 3 days to remove myself from my everyday routine and distractions.  When the sun was up, I adventured into nature to be inspired by one of my favorite places on Earth.  When the sun was down, I wrote.

I came home with this collection of 10 essays about the 10 people that had the biggest impact on my life over the last 10 years.  I presented the group with my project idea upon return and shared my plans.  I would give myself the year to work on this project quietly in the background, meeting up with each of them to take photos.  These photos would be my gift to all of them, as well as part of the project itself.  Their photos are a biography within my autobiography.  You will read my story, but you will see their faces.  I wanted to paint a beautiful picture of everyday people that have changed my life.  To show that superheroes live amongst us all.  To be clear that these people didn’t wake up one day and look for someone to help, but were simply themselves and effortlessly extended their hands to me.  They are parents, grandparents, and friends. They are hard-working, fun, and interesting people.  They are the 10 people I am most grateful for.

I am sharing my story because I think it is very teachable.  My story is unique to me, but it is also the story of so many.  We live in a time where we have been forcibly pulled to our most superficial levels, and we are all suffering because of it.  Thankfully there is also a mass-awakening happening simultaneously.  Our spirits are screaming to be set free from the shallow depths of consumerism and small talk.  We are desperate for real connection.  But if we learned from our parents what they learned from their parents on subjects of keeping our emotions to ourselves and to simply survive, how do we learn the language we are all so desperate to speak?  We learn by listening to those around us who speak it.  We learn by seeking out those that speak it.  We learn by practicing what feels true to our souls.  This is how I’ve learned, and this is what I hope to teach.  Through my own personal experiences I want to tell a story of painfully hard work, long-term consistent effort, human connection, and the most glorious payoff of all: falling in love with life.  Love yourself enough to do this.  I’m so grateful that I did.
